THE SPENNER FAMILY AT HOME IN WACO, TEXAS | WINTER REFLECTIONS

The Spenner family — at home in Waco, Texas, with their two sweet boys, a new puppy, and another little one on the way.

This was my third shoot with these beautiful people. I am so honored and thankful to be able to document the different stages of their growing family. 

Whether I’m in Dallas or Houston (just keeping it unpredictable around here) driving over to Waco to meet with Kaytlyn, Christian, and their boys, refreshes my creative cup, and these moments always seem to come at the right time.

Texas winter is a funny in between. You will not find the “perfect” winter in south Florida where you can jump in the ocean but also pull out a sweater, and you will not find a snowy or icy winter that you would find up north either.

At least in North Texas, it’s cold, and brown. It can feel a little monotonous if you’re not used to it. Maybe that is winter everywhere but the tropics haha.

Yet, there is so much beauty to be found. Whenever I am there, the Lord is so faithful to take me by hand to help me see it. 

Last year, it looked like sitting in a dead flower patch and trying to find the color that was there. To my surprise, it was still bursting with life.

This year, it looked like taking a walk every day around sunset time, and noticing the delayed fall colors, the winter berries, the birds singing, and the gentle cool air. 

It’s the hidden beauty that makes the mundane magical, and I’m so thankful for that. 

Kaytlyn and Christian are creative geniuses, they are deeply intentional, and they have a unique gift of ushering beauty into the everyday. I pray that when we create together, each photo embodies and tells the story of how special they are and of the loveliness that they bring to the world. 

I pray that each photo embodies the fact that they can take a dry, winter day, and make it so, so magical. It’s God-given!
