Last winter, I was walking through downtown Vero past an art studio. I looked inside to see a beautiful artist creating an oil painting of something so familiar: one of my photographs of a family we both know and love. I walked into the studio, we connected instantly, and the rest is history. Erika is incredibly special. I feel so blessed to be able to call her a dear friend, and to be in this amazing creative collaboration between her, a painter, and I, a photographer. Her story is such a wild ride. I had the honor of writing about it in the Liv Vero April 2026 issue, so I will not spoil it. For now, I will say that it is marked by the Miraculous, by surrender, and by allowing art to be a form of abundant generosity. Go grab a copy of the issue, cozy up with a coffee or a tea, and let Erika's story encourage you and reignite your creativity. The Beauty of having your Photographs PaintedIf there is one thing more meaningful than having your photographs printed, it is having them painted. I am continually urging my clients to take their photos off of the digital screen and allow them to become physical and tangible. Printing is incredible, but a painting is an heirloom, ushering slow art into your home, and making for a treasure that will be passed down for generations.
Erika has held each commission with incredible weight, from a family portrait, to a breastfeeding mother on the beach, to a bride and groom on a beach in California. She is praying God's word over each subject she paints, and she has an incredible gift of capturing the essence of each individual, even if she is yet to meet them. If you would like to commission Erika to paint your favorite photo, you can connect with her through Instagram! https://www.instagram.com/oilsbyerika/?hl=en
